In the ongoing governorship election in Bayelsa State, the incumbent governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Duoye Diri, has secured victory in his polling unit, defeating Udengs Eradiri, the flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP).
Governor Diri triumphed in Polling Unit 05, Ward 10, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. According to the election results from the unit, Diri garnered 130 votes, while Eradiri received 8 votes. Additionally, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 45 votes.
Earlier, Eradiri had raised concerns about alleged vote-buying during the election. He accused the party in power of utilizing state resources to influence the outcome of the polls. The LP candidate expressed disappointment that funds earmarked for education and other essential services were being used for vote-buying.
In a video clip shared by The Cable, Eradiri stated, “The state resources are everywhere shared. The money that should have been used for schools, education, and the economy of the state is thrown around to buy votes.”
The governorship election in Bayelsa State has been closely watched, with candidates and parties vying for victory in the off-cycle polls.
