FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Attributes Rift with Rivers State Governor to Politics

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revealed that his ongoing rift with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, is fundamentally a matter of politics. This statement comes in the midst of a political controversy that has led to attempts by some members of the State Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara, resulting in chaos in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Wike stated that the allegations surrounding his demand for N20 billion and awarding contracts to himself are essentially part of the political landscape. The former Governor of Rivers State further emphasized that he is undeterred by the accusations and controversies arising from the ongoing crisis.

Wike asserted, “If I demand N20 billion every month and even award all the contracts to myself, that’s politics. Where was he when I was fighting? I have to be politically relevant, and I must maintain my political structure. I can’t allow anybody to cut me out immediately. If you like accuse me all you like, I won’t have a sleepless night because the right thing must be done.”

In related developments, reports have emerged regarding a peace meeting between PDP governors and Nyesom Wike. During the meeting, Governor Wike expressed his grievances against Governor Fubara and accused him of collaborating with political adversaries to undermine his political standing.

The meeting, led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, included governors from Adamawa and Plateau, who appealed to Wike to prioritize peace and reconciliation in Rivers State. The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, disclosed these developments to the media.
