The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its primary elections for August 22, 2024, ahead of the upcoming state government elections.
This announcement was made by the State Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, on behalf of the State Executive Committee.
Ebere highlighted the party’s dedication to ensuring a transparent and fair election process, urging all aspirants to maintain decorum before, during, and after the primaries. The party has stipulated that only executive members will participate in the primaries as automatic delegates.
This decision has sparked growing calls from many party members at the Local Government and Ward levels for broader participation. They argue that allowing all card-carrying members to vote in the primaries would enhance equity, fairness, and justice within the party.
Additionally, Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh, the State Organizing Secretary, encouraged candidates to actively engage with their constituents across various councils. He assured that the primaries would be conducted in a manner that garners widespread acceptance. Umeh also mentioned that the party has provisions in place to support candidates who do not advance to the main elections, stressing that the ultimate goal is to achieve a successful outcome in the general elections.
