President Bola Tinubu has officially commissioned the first batch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses at a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The 20 buses, produced locally by Innoson Motors, are part of the government’s efforts to address transportation challenges, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a symbolic gesture, five of the newly commissioned CNG buses were driven to the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, where President Tinubu, taking a brief recess from the ongoing Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, inaugurated them.
The introduction of these CNG buses comes as a response to demands from organized labor following the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023. The government is hopeful that these environmentally friendly buses will significantly ease transportation issues within Abuja and serve as a model for sustainable urban transport across the country.
Last week, the Chairman and CEO of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, a meeting that underscored the government’s commitment to supporting local industries and promoting innovation in the transportation sector.
