Renowned South African actress Connie Chiume has passed away at the age of 72. Chiume died on August 6, 2024, at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg.
In a statement, Chiume’s family requested privacy as they mourn their loss. “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on August 6, 2024. The family will communicate further details and ask for privacy during this difficult period,” the statement read.
Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw expressed her condolences on Instagram, saying, “NO! Rest in peace Mum Connie. You were deeply loved & appreciated. My condolences to South Africa; they have lost a beautiful soul. Sleep well, my friend!”
Chiume’s illustrious career spanned several decades, making her a household name through her roles in popular TV shows such as Mohlolohadi, Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, Rhythm City, Housekeepers, and Grassroots. She also gained international recognition for her role in the Marvel film Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The late actress made significant contributions to the entertainment industry, with her recent work including a notable performance in the hit series ‘Gomora’.
