The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecommunication operators to immediately reactivate mobile lines that were blocked due to issues with the National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM verification process.
On Sunday, MTN deactivated numerous customer lines for failing to link their National Identification Numbers with their phone numbers, in compliance with the NCC’s mandate. This directive, which requires SIMs to be connected to NINs, is set to take effect from July 31, 2024.
The enforcement of this directive has led to significant customer backlash, with many MTN users expressing their frustration at company offices across the country.
In response to the situation, the NCC has instructed all telecom operators to promptly restore access to the affected lines. Further updates are expected.
