President Bola Tinubu has extended his best wishes to Team Nigeria as they commence their campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This message of support was conveyed through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Titled “President Tinubu Sends Best Wishes to Team Nigeria at 2024 Paris Olympics,” the statement highlighted the president’s encouragement and well-wishes for the 88 Nigerian athletes, comprising 63 women and 25 men, who will compete in 12 different sports at the event.
The Paris Olympic Games, featuring a total of 10,714 athletes from 205 countries, are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
President Tinubu assured the athletes of the unwavering support of over 200 million Nigerians, who will be fervently praying and cheering for their success throughout the competition. He expressed anticipation for the performances of Team Nigeria, particularly noting Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, as well as other talented Nigerian athletes.
In his message, Tinubu urged the athletes to embody the resilience, courage, respect, self-control, and good sportsmanship that are characteristic of Nigerians. He also called on the coaching crew and Nigerian spectators attending the Games to uphold the nation’s honour as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria.
“The President enjoins the athletes to exhibit the resilience, courage, respect, self-control, and good sportsmanship that Nigerians are known for,” the statement read.
“President Tinubu urges the coaching crew, support staff, and Nigerian spectators who will be watching the Games in Paris to remain worthy ambassadors of the country.”
