The identities of the organizers behind the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest, scheduled for August 1st to 10th, 2024, have been disclosed.
The Take it Back Movement (TIB), one of the key groups leading the protest, has formally requested the use of Eagle Square in Abuja as the main convergence point for demonstrators demanding better governance.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, TIB detailed their plans to utilize Eagle Square around the clock for the ten-day duration of the protest. They also noted that the protest could extend beyond this period as they aim to address what they describe as a prolonged national crisis attributed to the ruling party.
TIB’s request includes the provision of essential amenities such as a 24-hour power supply, toilet facilities, water, and security to ensure the comfort and safety of citizens who will be camping at Eagle Square. The group stressed that the protesters should receive the same respect and courtesy as foreign and local dignitaries who frequently use the space.
“Your office must also ensure the provision of a 24-hour power supply, toilet facilities, water, and security for the convenience of Nigerian citizens who will be camped out at Eagle Square”.
Additionally, TIB has requested the removal of the outer wire mesh barrier facing the Aso Rock Villa to allow protesters the option of visiting the Presidential Villa during the demonstration.
“We request that the outer wire mesh barrier facing the Aso Rock Villa be removed in the meantime, as protesters may decide to visit the Presidential Villa during the protest”.
As the protest date nears, the Take it Back Movement urges the authorities to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate the protesters and facilitate a peaceful and effective demonstration.
