The Edo State Government has issued a response following a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the impeachment of Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor.
The court’s decision reinstated Shaibu, citing procedural irregularities by the Edo State House of Assembly in the impeachment process.
Justice James Omotosho, in his ruling, declared the allegations against Shaibu as insufficient to constitute gross misconduct, ordering his immediate reinstatement and providing security for him to resume his duties until the end of his tenure.
In reaction to the court’s decision, Chris Nehikhare, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, communicated the government’s stance to Naija News. He stated that Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, who was appointed by Governor Godwin Obaseki to replace Shaibu, will remain in office pending the outcome of the government’s appeal.
Nehikhare emphasized that Godwins is recognized as the current Deputy Governor of Edo State until the appeal is resolved, urging residents to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities.
“The Edo State Government has filed a stay of execution of the judgement pending the hearing of the appeal,” Nehikhare affirmed.
