Senate President Godswill Akpabio has strongly rebutted recent media reports claiming that the 10th Senate had suggested acquiring new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Speaking to journalists in Maiduguri after paying a condolence visit to Senator Tahir Monguno, Akpabio categorically dismissed these allegations as false, emphasizing they were fabricated by propagandists.
Last week, multiple media outlets circulated reports alleging that Akpabio had made statements regarding the Senate’s approval for new aircraft despite concerns over widespread hunger in Nigeria. However, in a statement released by his media unit in Abuja, Akpabio clarified that these reports were baseless and intended to malign the Senate’s reputation.
“I want to clarify that the rumors you have been hearing about the Senate President’s comments on purchasing a new plane for the President and Vice President, regardless of the hardships faced by Nigerians, are entirely false. I never made such statements,” Akpabio affirmed during his interaction with journalists.
He attributed the misinformation to propagandists and detractors who consistently seek to undermine the Senate’s efforts. Akpabio reiterated the Senate’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through legislative measures aimed at advancing national development.
During his visit to Maiduguri, Akpabio also expressed satisfaction with the current security situation in Borno State and praised President Tinubu’s efforts in restoring peace to the region. He urged Nigerians to pray for the success of the administration and called for continued support from the people of Borno State.
“Rest assured, pray for the government, exercise patience, and trust that the partnership between Tinubu and Shettima will bring prosperity to all,” Akpabio assured, highlighting his optimism about the administration’s potential positive impact on the country.
