In a brazen assault on Gidan Bakuso in the Gada local government area of Sokoto State, bandits struck in the early hours of Saturday, kidnapping numerous Tsangaya students.
Reports indicate that the attack, which occurred around 1:00 am, resulted in the abduction of at least 15 students, as confirmed by Liman Abubakar, the proprietor of the school. Abubakar also revealed that the bandits shot one person and abducted a woman during the invasion.
“While we have so far counted 15 missing students, we are still searching for more,” stated Abubakar.
The member representing Gada-East Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Kabiru Dauda, corroborated the attack, noting that he received a distress call from the village around 2:00 am.
“I reached out to the local government authorities and security agencies, and I am sure they are doing something about it,” Dauda assured.
Additionally, bandits reportedly attacked Turba village in Isa Local Government Area of the state, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including the village head. Habibu Modachi, the representative of Isa Constituency, confirmed the incident and suggested it may be a reprisal following recent security operations targeting bandits’ hideouts.
In response to inquiries about the attacks, the spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, expressed unawareness but promised to liaise with the Divisional Police Officer of the affected local government areas for further information.
The incidents underscore the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Sokoto State, with banditry posing a persistent threat to lives and property.
