Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of the late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has publicly criticized her late husband’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, for openly supporting the current governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in the upcoming November governorship election in the state.
Aiyedatiwa, who previously served as Akeredolu’s deputy, assumed the governorship following Akeredolu’s demise on December 27, 2023.
Prior to Akeredolu’s passing, tensions had arisen between him and Aiyedatiwa, reportedly stemming from alleged disloyalty on the part of the former deputy governor. This discord led to the dissolution of Aiyedatiwa’s aides, and there were even attempts to impeach him by the State Assembly, allegedly with the governor’s support, although specifics of their disagreement remained unclear.
Expressing her disapproval of Funke’s endorsement of Aiyedatiwa, Betty took to her Instagram page to share a photo of Funke wearing a cap with the inscription, “I am lucky.” In her caption, Betty labeled Funke as “shameless” and referred to her as a “bloody serpent,” indicating her frustration with the situation.
Betty wrote: “Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as ‘I am lucky’ Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky!”
However, Betty’s public criticism of Funke has sparked outrage among social media users, with many expressing the opinion that Betty should be focusing on mourning her husband rather than engaging in public disputes. Some followers also urged her to remain composed and avoid getting involved in political conflicts during this sensitive time.
The public altercation highlights the underlying tensions within Ondo State politics as the governorship election draws nearer, with emotions running high amidst the recent passing of the former governor.
