In response to allegations of orchestrating violent political activities, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has instructed law enforcement agencies to apprehend and prosecute those engaged in such actions.
The directive follows accusations linking him to an attack on supporters of President Bola Tinubu during the latter’s recent visit to the state on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
The governor clarified his stance through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, asserting his non-involvement in the reported activities attributed to political thugs. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and tranquility in the state, emphasizing zero tolerance for any form of violence that threatens the well-being of its residents.
The statement emphasized, “Any political campaign that disturbs the peace in the state is unacceptable and must be met with the decisive actions of law enforcement agencies.” Governor Aiyedatiwa disavowed any association between his government and the reported activities allegedly perpetrated by political thugs during the President’s visit to Owo and Akure.
Furthermore, Aiyedatiwa urged politicians and their followers to conduct issue-based campaigns, devoid of blackmail, falsehood, or actions inciting public discord. He emphasized the importance of fostering a political environment free from intimidation and coercion, ensuring a fair and peaceful electoral process in the state.
As investigations into the alleged incidents unfold, the governor’s call for stringent enforcement of the law underscores his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and preserving democratic principles in Ondo State.
