The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Sokoto State has apprehended nine individuals involved in the manufacturing and sale of pillows filled with used diapers and sanitary pads. The arrest, as announced by the state’s Commandant, Bello Alkali Argungun, was made in response to actionable intelligence received by the security agency.
The suspects allegedly engaged small children to collect the discarded materials, which were then used to fill pillowcases. Notably, these counterfeit pillows were adorned with logos from well-known foam companies, adding an element of deceit to their illicit business.
Argungun expressed concern about the potential health hazards posed by such activities, emphasizing the risk of unknowingly contracting diseases through the use of these contaminated pillows. He urged the public to patronize legitimate businesses to safeguard their health.
The Commandant confirmed that investigations were ongoing, and upon completion, the suspects would face charges in court. The NSCDC’s intervention aims to curb illegal and harmful practices that threaten public health and safety.
