In the wake of the untimely death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has hastened his return to Akure, the Ondo State capital, from Igbokoda, where he had been attending a yearly Christian program called “Ilaje for Christ.”
Aiyedatiwa, who was initially in Igbokoda for the religious event, had to cut short his holiday plans in response to the passing of Governor Akeredolu. The Christian program was organized in collaboration with Ilaje religious leaders to express gratitude to God for the cessation of bloodshed and the restoration of peace to Ilaje land.
Addressing the gathering at the event, Aiyedatiwa conveyed optimism and gratitude, stating, “We are here again to thank God for Nigeria, Ondo state, and Ilaje nation two years after the commencement of this yearly praise and worship programme, there’s no more spilling of blood in our land. The remaining days of this year, God will surprise all of us and we will enter the New Year triumphantly.”
The acting governor, having returned to Akure, is now set for his swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for 4 pm. This transition follows the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and Aiyedatiwa is poised to assume the role of the substantive Ondo State Governor.
