The National Assembly has given an assurance to Nigerians that the 2024 national budget will be passed into law this week. Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, made this disclosure on Monday, revealing that all committees have concluded their hearings and submitted their reports to the Committee on Appropriations.
Senator Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, stated that the National Assembly is set to pass the 2024 budget and subsequently transmit it to President Bola Tinubu for assent. He urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the Tinubu administration as it works towards repositioning the country.
Amid current challenges, Senator Bamidele expressed optimism that Nigeria will soon enter a period of economic prosperity with the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among all ethnic nationalities, warning that development progress cannot occur in an atmosphere of ethnic disharmony.
In a statement, Senator Bamidele outlined the progress in the budgetary process, stating, “All the committees of the National Assembly have concluded their hearings. They have equally submitted their reports to the Committee on Appropriations, whose members are now looking into the committees’ reports ahead of the plenary.”
He further outlined the timeline for the budget passage, noting that the National Assembly will reconvene on December 29 to deliberate on the Committee on Appropriations’ report. Senator Bamidele assured that the National Assembly remains committed to maintaining the tradition of a January-December budget cycle, emphasizing the importance of deepening budget governance.
The statement concluded with Senator Bamidele’s assurance of a more prosperous Nigeria, highlighting the commitment of the National Assembly to ensuring a swift and efficient budgetary process.
