Addressing persistent rumors surrounding her marriage, Hollywood actress Jada Pinkett Smith clarified in an interview with Drew Barrymore that she and her husband, Will Smith, are not planning to divorce.
The actress appeared on the Drew Barrymore Show, where the host discussed Pinkett Smith’s recent biography, “Worthy.” During the interview, Drew Barrymore raised the topic of the alleged separation between Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.
Holding a copy of “Worthy” during the pre-recorded interview set to air on Tuesday, Barrymore pointed out that the book seemed to present the couple as distinct entities. In response, Jada Pinkett Smith emphasized that there are no intentions of a formal divorce between her and Will Smith.
Drew Barrymore asked, “Can I separate you from the man, because you are the woman who I’ve gotten to know.” Pinkett Smith replied, “We’re staying together forever. I tried. We tried.”
Explaining further, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed, “I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.”
After the interview, Pinkett Smith shared additional insights into her decision to continue her marriage, recounting a pivotal moment during the 2022 Academy Awards. She disclosed that she chose to give her marriage another chance after Will Smith’s altercation with Chris Rock during a book tour event.
“When I was sitting at the Oscars, it clicked in, I was like, ‘Oh snap, you hit Chris?’” Pinkett Smith shared during an event in New York City. Expressing her commitment to her husband, she stated, “I was like, ‘I’m riding with you. I didn’t come into this place as your wife, but I’m leaving here as your wife because we got a storm we’re gonna have to deal with together. I am NOT going to leave your side.”
Jada Pinkett Smith concluded by affirming her love for Will Smith, stating, “I said, ‘I’m not gonna be able to get away from this dude. I really love him.” The interview provided a candid insight into the actress’s personal life and the challenges she and Will Smith have faced together.
