President Bola Tinubu is currently in a meeting with the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. The gathering aims to find a resolution to the ongoing leadership crisis in the state.
The meeting commenced at 9:45 p.m. and swiftly transitioned into a closed-door session, with the President insisting that only individuals from Ondo State remain in the Banquet Hall.
Over 50 attendees, including lawmakers, aides of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and those of the Deputy Governor, were present. Notable figures in attendance comprised Senators representing Ondo North (Jide Ipinsagba), South (Jimoh Ibrahim), and Central Districts (Adeniyi Adegbonmire). House of Representatives members from Ondo state, state commissioners, party chieftains, and elders were also part of the gathering.
The meeting follows a plea from Ondo State Elders and Leaders, urging President Tinubu to intervene urgently in the constitutional crisis within the state. The leaders also called on the APC’s state and national leadership to provide guidance and ensure discipline within the party.
In a letter signed by the convener, Reuben Fasontanti, and the secretary, Bakkita Bello, the elders emphasized the need for the State House of Assembly to approach the situation responsibly, avoiding the impeachment of either the Governor or the Deputy Governor. They appealed to all unelected individuals to allow the three arms of government to collaboratively find a lasting solution to the current crisis, emphasizing the importance of maintaining constitutional order and preventing a breakdown of law and order in Ondo State.
