Omowunmi Aloba, the wife of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has shed light on the strained relationship she had with her father-in-law, Oladimeji Aloba.
The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death has brought to the forefront the ill-feeling between Omowunmi and her father-in-law. He has publicly demanded a DNA test for his grandson, Liam.
During her testimony before the Lagos coroner inquest on Tuesday, Omowunmi revealed that the relationship between her and her father-in-law deteriorated following the birth of her son, Liam. She told Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, the coroner, that the discord emerged when Mohbad refused to hold Liam’s naming ceremony in Ikorodu.
According to Omowunmi, her father-in-law believed that she was driving a wedge between him and Mohbad, leading to a significant strain in their relationship. She expressed, “I used to have a very good relationship with my father-in-law before the birth of my son, Liam. In fact, I used to invite him to our house on many occasions.”
However, Mohbad’s decision and his grievances with his father led to a perception that Omowunmi was responsible for their disagreements, turning her into an adversary in her father-in-law’s eyes. The coroner inquest aims to uncover the facts surrounding the late singer’s death and the circumstances that led to the strained relationships within the family.
