The recent appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Post Master General of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sparked dissent among the agency’s workforce.
This move came in the wake of a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu’s spokesperson, which announced leadership changes within communication agencies, including NIPOST.
However, shortly after the initial announcement, conflicting reports emerged, suggesting that the former Postmaster-General, Adeyemi Adepoju, had been reinstated. In a viral video, Adepoju was seen addressing a group of workers who claimed that Tinubu had indeed reappointed him.
In response to these developments, NIPOST employees took action on Monday by staging a protest and shutting down the agency’s head office in Abuja. Their demonstration was primarily in opposition to the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the new CEO, contending that her selection did not align with their preferences. During the protest, workers voiced their support for Adeyemi Adepoju and expressed their dissent through chants and placards.
