Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has dismissed 14 members of the press team responsible for covering activities at the Kano Government House.
The news was communicated by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for Governor Yusuf, who informed the affected journalists that they are to return to their respective media organizations to seek replacements.
Although no official reason was given for the revocation of their accreditation, the announcement was reportedly made in a message shared on the Government House press crew’s WhatsApp group. Bature urged the journalists to comply with the directive, which will take effect on Tuesday.
In his message, Bature expressed gratitude for their service, stating, “Gentlemen of the press, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the excellent work you have done over the past year and a few months.
“Unfortunately, while I was away in the Republic of Serbia last week, certain issues arose that required the leadership to make a decision during this critical period.
“This is by no means the end of our relationship. We will continue to collaborate professionally at both official and personal levels. However, the list of press crew members is now due for replacement at Government House,” Bature’s message said, as reported by Daily Trust.
Among those affected are Aliyu Yusuf, Director of Public Enlightenment; Sani Suraj Abubakar, Public Relations Officer; and Adamu Dabo, Chairman of the press crew who represented Government House for Pyramid Radio (FRCN).
Other dismissed members include Naziru Yau from ARTV, Sadiq Sani AA, an ARTV cameraman, Rabiu Sunusi from Triumph, Umar Sheka of Freedom Radio, Jabir Dan’abba from Nasara Radio, Labara Sound, a cameraman from AIT, Nasiru Danhaki of NTA, Abdullahi Sule, the crew’s driver, Murtala Baba Kusa from Express Radio, and Ibrahim Muazzam from Radio Kano.
Bature added that the affected staff members are to report back to their respective media organizations for reassignment.
