Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has officially requested the House of Assembly to approve a supplementary budget totaling ₦99,221,503,569.90 for the year 2024.
The request was presented during a plenary session led by Speaker Ismail Falgore, who noted that the proposal is in line with Sections 122 (A) and (B) of the 1999 Constitution. The supplementary budget is intended to accelerate the execution of key projects aimed at improving the welfare of Kano State residents.
The proposed supplementary budget breaks down into ₦33,761,174,555.64 for personnel expenses, ₦34,492,888,103.44 for overhead costs, and ₦30,969,440,940.80 for capital investments.
Following the presentation, the State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, informed the press that the initial 2024 budget was set at ₦437,338,312,787. Should the supplementary budget be approved, the total budget for 2024 would increase to ₦536,559,816,357.84.
Shanono highlighted that the additional budget is crucial for funding the new minimum wage and other essential expenditures. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, human capital enhancement, and improvements in the health and education sectors.
