The President-elect of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, visited President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria on Monday at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Mahama’s visit was described as a courtesy call, and the meeting highlighted the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.
In a post shared via X on Tuesday, Mahama’s spokesperson wrote: “The President-Elect of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his residence, Presidential Villa, State House Yesterday.”
The visit comes shortly after Mahama’s victory in Ghana’s 2024 presidential election. The Electoral Commission of Ghana (ECG) officially declared Mahama the winner, with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total votes, defeating his nearest rival, the incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 4,657,304 votes, or 41.6%. The declaration was made last Monday by the ECG Chairman, Jane Mensa, in Accra.
