Chief Munir Balogun, father of Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing rivalry between his son and fellow artist, Davido.
Addressing the tensions that have developed between the two musicians and their respective fan bases, Chief Balogun offered his advice on handling the situation.
In a candid conversation, Chief Balogun revealed that he has advised Wizkid to remain unbothered by provocations from Davido’s supporters. He stressed the need for his son to stay focused on his career and avoid unnecessary distractions that could sidetrack him from his musical path.
The rivalry between Wizkid and Davido has been a hot topic in the music industry, with both artists enjoying enormous followings and contributing significantly to the rise of Afrobeats on the global stage.
During an interview with Punch Newspapers, Chief Balogun said, “I told my son not to pay attention to what Davido’s supporters are saying. They are just looking for ways to get attention, money, and all of that.”
He went on to explain that many fans fuel controversies for their own benefit, and urged Wizkid to rise above the noise. “They are just looking for what they will gain from it, and I advised him not to be distracted by them,” he added.
Chief Balogun also acknowledged that he has observed the rivalry playing out online, noting that it is something he keeps an eye on.
