Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate Olumide Akpata has emphasized his independence from political benefactors ahead of the September 21, 2024, election in Edo State.
In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Akpata assured voters that he is not controlled by any political godfather and pledged his accountability solely to the people of Edo State.
Akpata highlighted his commitment to transparency, stating, “I have no strings attached. I am not answerable to any godfather or political benefactor. That’s one reason the Edo people can trust the Labour Party government—we are answerable only to the people.”
Distancing himself from other candidates who may be influenced by former or serving governors, Akpata made it clear that his campaign is entirely self-funded, with support from friends who share his vision for Edo State. He dismissed rumors linking him to Governor Godwin Obaseki or the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling such claims “conspiracy theories that are most stupid.”
