The Commissioner of Police in Abuja, Ben Igweh, has called on journalists covering the ongoing nationwide protests to wear jackets identifying their media organizations and carry valid identification.
This directive was communicated through a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, on Sunday.
“The Commissioner of Police FCT Command directed me to inform all pressmen who intend to go out and cover the ongoing national protests to adequately dress in the attire of their respective media organisations and also come along with a valid means of identification,” Adeh stated.
This announcement follows reports that personnel from the Nigerian Police Force and the State Security Service (SSS) allegedly fired shots at journalists covering the protest at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
