The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has condemned the vandalism of an MTN office in the FESTAC area of Lagos State.
This incident occurred after MTN deactivated numerous mobile sim cards due to non-linkage with National Identification Numbers (NIN).
Angry customers, frustrated by the deactivation, stormed the MTN office located at 72 Junction, Opposite First Bank, 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos, on Monday. The situation escalated as some of the irate subscribers vandalized the premises, allegedly due to uncooperative staff.
A 17-second video shared on social media platform X showed a crowd of customers forcefully entering the telecom company’s premises, pulling back iron bars used for security fencing to gain access to the building.
In response to the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, via X, expressed strong disapproval, stating, “This should not be the way to go!” He noted that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of FESTAC and his team responded promptly to the report, successfully restoring order and remaining on-site to maintain peace.
