President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently engaged in a significant closed-door meeting with traditional rulers at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
The delegation, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, began discussions at approximately 2:30 pm in the Council Chamber.
While the specific agenda remains undisclosed, there is speculation that the meeting may address the increasing calls for nationwide protests against economic hardships, scheduled from August 1 to 10, 2024. The ‘EndBadGovernance’ movement, which has gained significant traction on social media, is organized by anonymous individuals, with no official entity claiming responsibility.
In attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. Governors Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressives Governors Forum, are also present. Additionally, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu are participating in the discussions.
Earlier today, President Tinubu met with APC Governors at the Villa. Following this meeting, the Governors chose not to brief the press on the outcomes of their discussions.
