Umara Zulum, son of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, has denied allegations of his involvement in a murder case in India. This comes after the Borno State government refuted earlier reports of his arrest in connection with the alleged incident.
Social media reports claimed that Umara, a student at a university in New Delhi, was accused of assaulting a Chinese national with a bottle during a nightclub altercation over a woman. The reports suggested that the incident resulted in the Chinese national’s death.
Addressing the allegations, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Zulum on New Media, issued a statement on Wednesday clarifying that none of the governor’s sons were involved in any criminal activity. Bundi emphasized that no arrest or charges had been made against Umara.
In a 35-second video clip posted on social media on Thursday, Umara himself addressed the allegations, describing them as baseless and untrue. He stated that the accusations were aimed at tarnishing his father’s reputation. Umara reportedly made these comments at the Government House in Maiduguri.
“Dear esteemed Nigerians, I am Umara Babagana Umara Zulum. I am here to address the damaging falsehoods made against me. It has come to my notice, a baseless gossip accusation against me, saying that I killed someone at a nightclub. This is not true. They want to tarnish my father’s name. I have been with my family for two months now, right in Maiduguri,” he said.
