The federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, plans to introduce an amendment bill to the 2024 Budget in the National Assembly. This legislative move aims to ensure the inclusion of payments for the anticipated new minimum wage.
During the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, July 15th, the council tasked Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, with drafting the amendment bill. This directive was part of the resolutions made during the meeting, which was chaired by President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, briefed journalists after the FEC meeting, detailing the decisions reached. Idris noted that President Tinubu is scheduled to hold a follow-up meeting with organized labour on Thursday. The amendment bill will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration after this meeting.
Further details on the amendment bill and its implications will be provided as they become available.
