In a move signaling early preparations for the 2027 elections, a billboard supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign has been erected in Abuja.
The billboard, showcasing a photo of President Tinubu embracing his wife, Remi, bears the message “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027.” It is situated near the Velodrome at the national stadium on Area 1 Road and was funded by a group known as “Dark Matters.”
This development comes shortly after President Tinubu marked his first anniversary in office. His administration has faced criticism over policies that some claim have aggravated the country’s economic difficulties. Critics suggest these policies might be diminishing the president’s grassroots support.
Nevertheless, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under the guidance of National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, is making significant efforts to consolidate backing for Tinubu’s potential re-election. In May 2024, Ganduje announced that the party is strengthening its infrastructure across the nation to support Tinubu’s campaign.
Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not yet released the timeline for the 2027 electoral process, this early campaign effort highlights a strategic push to build momentum and secure support well in advance, hinting at a possibly fierce electoral contest.
