In a significant development in the ongoing investigation involving former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, the American International School of Abuja has refunded $760,910.84 to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The refund is part of a larger sum of $845,852, allegedly paid by Bello as school fees for the education of five of his children at the American school. These funds were purportedly unlawfully sourced from the coffers of the Kogi State Government.
Bello has vehemently denied these allegations, asserting his innocence and vowing not to succumb to any form of manipulation aimed at undermining his reputation. He emphasized that the matter is already before the courts, signaling his confidence in the judicial process to resolve the issue.
Confirming the refund, Mr. Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity at EFCC, stated, “The school has refunded $760,910 to this commission.” This action marks a significant step in the investigation, highlighting the EFCC’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in matters of financial impropriety.
