The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified efforts to arrest former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, after a video surfaced on social media showing his wife distributing ₦1 million each to the ex-governor’s aides.
The EFCC had attempted to apprehend Bello on Wednesday, but the governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, prevented the operatives of the anti-graft agency from effecting the arrest.
In a circular issued to journalists, the EFCC urged anyone with information regarding the former governor’s whereabouts to report immediately to the commission or the nearest police station.
The circular read: “Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of ₦80.2 billion.
“Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the commission or the nearest police station.”
Additionally, Bello has been placed on a watch list and a no-fly list to prevent him from leaving the country through any land, air, or sea borders.
The EFCC has called on all security agencies in the country to place Bello on a watchlist and ensure a no-fly zone for him.
Video footage showing Bello’s wife distributing ₦1 million each to the former governor’s aides has further fueled the ongoing investigations.
