Following his inauguration as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Omobayo Godwins has vowed unwavering loyalty to Governor Godwin Obaseki during their brief tenure together. This commitment comes in the wake of the impeachment of former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.
In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program, the 37-year-old deputy governor affirmed his dedication to supporting Governor Obaseki’s administration, despite the limited time frame before the conclusion of the governor’s second term on November 12, 2024.
Stepping into the political limelight after his predecessor’s removal, Godwins expressed readiness to learn and adapt to the demands of his new role. He emphasized his commitment to executing the directives of Governor Obaseki, indicating a harmonious relationship between them for the remainder of their term.
Responding to a question about the perception of the deputy governor’s role being akin to a “spare tire,” Godwins expressed contentment with his current position, stating, “It’s okay with me. Life is a process. At 37+, I am already a deputy governor, it has improved my political outlook and I am not in a rush to drag with my governor. Whatever he says I should do is what I will do. He knows my strength. So, I will dwell on my strength when it comes to adding value. Politically, I am learning on the job.”
Regarding Shaibu’s impeachment, Godwins attributed it to the nature of politics, stressing the importance of loyalty in the political sphere.
