President Bola Tinubu is set to unveil a groundbreaking three-step approach to assess the performance of Ministers and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as he approaches the completion of his first year in office.
This pioneering strategy aims to incorporate public opinion into the decision-making process regarding the retention or dismissal of cabinet members and key agency leaders by May 29, 2024.
Insiders from the Presidential Villa in Abuja revealed to BusinessDay that the President plans to launch the feedback platform imminently, although the inauguration has been postponed to the following week. The delay is to ensure the platform is fully operational and capable of gathering comprehensive feedback from Nigerians.
According to sources, the feedback mechanism will operate at three levels. First, members of the public can provide input on Ministerial performance based on President Tinubu’s targets for each Ministry. The Policy Coordination office, led by Hadiza Bala-Usman, will conduct evaluations, and a group of consultants will also assess Ministerial performance.
Bala-Usman had earlier indicated that President Tinubu is committed to dropping Ministers who fail to deliver on their mandates. She emphasized the importance of Ministerial progress tracking and urged delivery desk officers to provide feedback on challenges and progress.
The President’s directive to activate a performance tracking system underscores his commitment to delivering on his promises and building a more just and equitable society for Nigerians. He stressed the importance of tangible results and the use of data in governance.
The Policy Coordination Office will primarily rely on recommendations from the first Ministerial retreat to assess achievements, ensuring a thorough evaluation process.
