Bayobab Group, an affiliate of the telecommunications giant MTN Group, has successfully restored its operational capabilities after facing disruptions, the company announced on Tuesday.
The telecom firm revealed that it had overcome the challenges posed by recent incidents, managing to reinstate over 3 Terabits per second (Tbps) of its network capacity.
The disruption had raised concerns about potential impacts on connectivity and service delivery, but Bayobab’s technical team responded swiftly and effectively, ensuring a prompt recovery of its full operational capacity.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, Bayobab Group stated, “As of March 19, 2024, Bayobab Group, a subsidiary of MTN Group, has successfully restored its operations, recovering over 3 Terabits per second (Tbps) of capacity across our footprint.”
The statement continued, highlighting the company’s resilience and ability to maintain a robust network despite challenges. Bayobab Group emphasized its commitment to prioritizing network reliability and swiftly restoring services for its customers.
During the disruption, which occurred last Thursday, cuts to undersea cables supplying broadband Internet connectivity to Nigeria and West African countries caused disruptions for numerous banks, financial institutions, telecom companies, and allied firms.
Affected cable companies included the West African Cable System and African Coast to Europe on the West Coast route from Europe, both experiencing faults. SAT3 and MainOne also reported downtime due to the cable cuts.
Bayobab’s successful restoration of operational capabilities marks a significant milestone in ensuring continued connectivity and service provision for its customers across Africa and beyond.
