President Bola Tinubu has instructed the immediate payment of outstanding electricity bills owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) by the State House.
The President’s directive comes following a successful reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and the AEDC.
Contrary to the initial claim made by the AEDC of a N923 million debt, a recent letter from the AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary, dated February 14, 2024, revealed that the actual outstanding bill amounts to N342,352,217.46.
With both parties satisfied with the reconciliation process, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has assured that the debt will be settled before the end of this week.
In line with the President’s directive, Gbajabiamila has also urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to follow suit by reconciling their accounts with the AEDC and ensuring the prompt payment of their electricity bills.
This directive demonstrates the administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and adherence to financial obligations, setting a precedent for transparent and accountable governance.
