Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, has expressed that he and his fellow Super Eagles teammates are yet to unleash their best football in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Despite securing three wins and one draw in their four matches in Cote d’Ivoire, including notable victories over Ivory Coast, the host nation, and Cameroon, Osimhen believes that there is still untapped potential within the team.
The 25-year-old forward has garnered praise for his standout performances in Coach Jose Peseiro’s squad, particularly in the thrilling encounter against Cameroon in the tournament.
As the Super Eagles gear up for their next match in the AFCON Quarter-Finals, Osimhen acknowledged the team’s winning mentality and emphasized their collective goal to secure victory. He stated, “I cannot lie; we haven’t played the best of our football yet. I think the whole team has this mentality of winning, we want to win.”
Highlighting the camaraderie within the squad, Osimhen added, “For me, we are more like a family than just players. So, for me, it is important to have this mentality of winning. I want to give kudos to my defenders. They have been focused since the start of this competition. We also have a good goalkeeper [Nwabali]. We want to keep this momentum going.”
