Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has asserted that security agents possess knowledge about the perpetrators of the frequent attacks in the state. He described the attacks as pure acts of terrorism and urged the federal government to take swift action to protect the lives and properties of citizens.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the urgent need for security agencies to fulfill their mandate of safeguarding lives and properties. He claimed that both the sponsors and financiers of the terrorists are known to the security agents, and it is within their capacity to apprehend them.
“What I can tell you is the killings in Plateau and the attacks in recent times are pure acts of terrorism. I believe that the sponsors of the terrorists, the financiers of the terrorists, and those who are the terrorists are known,” the Plateau governor stated.
He further appealed to the Nigerian government to address the attacks promptly, emphasizing the potential consequences if the situation is not swiftly handled.
Muftwang expressed concern that the people of the state might resort to self-help if the government fails to effectively address the security challenges. He urged the government to prioritize the safety and security of citizens.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, also commented on the Plateau killings, stating that the incidents highlight the country’s breakdown and total collapse. Ezekwesili pointed out that the lack of consequences for perpetrators of heinous crimes contributes to the continued violence. She highlighted religious intolerance as an underlying issue fueling attacks in Plateau State, characterizing the situation as a society that has lost its soul.
The calls for urgent action come amidst growing concerns about the security situation in various parts of Nigeria, with calls for the government to address the root causes of the unrest and protect the lives of citizens.
