The funeral arrangements and timetable for the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023, have been disclosed. According to a copy of the funeral timetable obtained by Peoples Gazette, the final resting place for the former governor is scheduled for his hometown of Owo on February 23.
The events leading up to the funeral will kick off on February 15 with a crusade at the seat of power, Akure. The following day, February 16, will witness a Jumat service. On February 19, a valedictory service and tributes by the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) will be held in Ibadan. By 4 p.m. on the same day, a service of song at All Saints Church, Jericho, and Jacob and Grace Chapel will be held simultaneously.
A commendation service is planned for February 20 at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, Jericho, with a lying-in-state at his residence in Jericho, Ibadan. A program in Akure is scheduled for February 21 at 10 a.m., followed by a service of song at St. Andrews Church in Owo on February 22.
The funeral service will take place on February 23 at St. Andrews Church in Owo, followed by a reception at Mydas Hotel. Thanksgiving is slated for February 25.
A member of the State Executive Council (SEC) and a member of the planning committee confirmed the funeral arrangement, noting that the incumbent governor is finalizing the details in collaboration with the family of the former governor. Meanwhile, a former spokesman to the late governor mentioned that the timetable was drawn up by Akeredolu’s family and had been shared with the incumbent governor for input, expressing surprise at its leakage to the public.
