The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his counterpart in Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, have arrived at the Supreme Court in Abuja. Their presence at the apex court precedes the anticipated rulings on Friday concerning the governorship election appeals in their respective states.
Reports indicate heightened security measures around the Supreme Court premises, reflecting the anxiety in states where judgments are expected. The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgments on governorship disputes in eight states, including Lagos, Plateau, Bauchi, Kano, Abia, Ebonyi, Zamfara, and Cross River.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, eleven new justices of the Supreme Court are scheduled to be sworn in next week. The nominations were confirmed by the 10th Senate led by Godswill Akpabio in December 2023, fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s request. The upcoming justices span different regions of the country, ensuring a full complement of 21 justices in line with the Constitution.
