The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a warning to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, cautioning him against exploiting the name of Nnamdi Kanu for his political ambitions. IPOB contends that Kalu, despite claiming to work towards Kanu’s release, lacks genuine interest in the IPOB struggle and Kanu’s unconditional release.
Kalu has been vocal about his efforts to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since his arrest in Kenya and subsequent return to Nigeria in 2021. However, IPOB argues that Kalu’s involvement is more about political posturing and personal gain than a sincere commitment to the cause.
In a statement released on Wednesday, IPOB emphasized that it has moved beyond the stage of political gimmicks and warned Kalu against using the organization and Kanu’s persecution to further his political agenda. The pro-Biafran group asserted that it remains vigilant and will not tolerate actions that could jeopardize Nnamdi Kanu’s safety.
IPOB also pointed out that the peace experienced in the South-East during the Christmas season was ensured by the efforts of IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), not by politicians like Benjamin Kalu. The statement urged the public to be cautious and disregard any attempt by politicians to exploit the IPOB struggle for their personal gains.
The Indigenous People of Biafra reiterated its commitment to the release of Nnamdi Kanu and the broader struggle for the rights and autonomy of the South-East region.
