The opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of love and unity during the Christmas season, despite the challenges brought about by the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government. The party conveyed this message through a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba.
In the statement, the PDP urged Nigerians to exhibit a spirit of brotherhood and compassion, emphasizing the need to support one another during this festive period. The party expressed concern about the economic hardship, pain, and misery faced by many Nigerian families, attributing these challenges to the policies of the APC administration.
According to the PDP, a significant number of Nigerian families are grappling with economic strain and social dislocation, struggling to afford daily meals and other necessities, especially during the Christmas season. The opposition party lamented the contrast between the celebratory atmosphere in other nations and the difficult circumstances faced by Nigerians.
The PDP called on the National Assembly to advocate for the people by scrutinizing the 2024 budget and eliminating provisions for luxury items. The party proposed redirecting such funds to sectors directly impacting the well-being of Nigerians.
Expressing concern about the state of the nation, the PDP encouraged Nigerians not to succumb to despondency. Instead, the party urged citizens to use the occasion of Christmas to offer prayers and renew their hope and trust in divine intervention in the country’s affairs.
As the Christmas season unfolds, the PDP’s message underscores a call for unity and compassion among Nigerians, emphasizing the need for collective support amidst the challenges posed by the current economic and social conditions.
