Edozie John Akunyili, the son of the late Dora Akunyili, former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has expressed deep frustration over the current state of Nigeria, stating that nobody has sacrificed more for the country than his family.
In response to tributes pouring in for his late mother after the discovery of factories producing unwholesome drinks in Abia State, Edozie Akunyili shared his sentiments through a post. He questioned the worthiness of his mother’s sacrifices considering the prevailing corruption in the country.
Expressing his sorrow, Akunyili mentioned that he and his siblings would give anything to have their parents back. He revealed that his mother’s dedication to her work for NAFDAC led her to delay her fibroid hysterectomy for years, which ultimately proved fatal as the fibroid was later discovered to be cancerous.
Reflecting on the current state of affairs in Nigeria, Akunyili expressed pain at witnessing lies, corruption, and dirty politics being normalized in the country. He conveyed his frustration, stating, “Exactly. Nobody has sacrificed more for Nigeria than our family and yet we constantly ask ourselves if it was worth it? We would give anything to have our parents with us but Naija moves on with corruption and impunity from the top down seen as normalcy.”
