Timi Frank, the former deputy spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Frank is calling for the arrest and investigation of Wike over his alleged involvement in the death of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim of Ahoada Division in Rivers State.
The call comes after the representative of the Asari-Toru Federal Constituency in Rivers State, Boma Goodhead, accused Wike of assassination and misappropriation of $300 million earmarked for the development of Ogoniland. Goodhead made these allegations during a protest last Friday and urged security agencies to investigate Wike’s actions and bring him in for questioning regarding Angbashim’s death.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Timi Frank insisted that if President Tinubu fails to act by arresting Wike and initiating a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the killing of the DPO, then all murder suspects in Nigerian prisons should be set free. Frank emphasized the principle that nobody is above the law and called for equal justice for all Nigerians.
Frank stressed the importance of a transparent investigation, urging the National Human Rights Commission and the International Criminal Court to intervene. He suggested that they invite Goodhead to provide further details about the allegations. Frank emphasized the need for justice for the slain police officer’s family, emphasizing that this is not a time to protect or shield anyone.
He concluded by urging relevant bodies to take up the matter, inviting Goodhead to present her case, and ensuring accountability for Wike in the death of the police officer.
