In a harrowing incident on Sunday night, chaos erupted in the Zone 5 segment of the Kubwa Extension 2 Relocation Estate along Arab Road in the Federal Capital Territory, as armed bandits abducted a woman and her three children, including a six-month-old baby.
The assailants struck between 8 pm and 9 pm, unleashing indiscriminate gunfire that created panic and commotion in the area. Concerns have been raised by residents, highlighting the distressing trend of kidnappings that tends to escalate every December in the region.
A resident, speaking to PUNCH, expressed dismay over the recurrence of such incidents, recalling a similar abduction reported by The PUNCH in the same area last December. The resident remarked, “This kidnapping has become a regular occurrence here every December. If you remember very well, last December, The PUNCH reported a similar incident of abduction in the area, now this is another one, and it is worrisome.”
Another resident attributed the surge in kidnappings to inadequate security measures, asserting, “This kidnapping is due to a lack of adequate security in the area. Last night they kidnapped a whole family – a mother and her three children, including a six months old baby here at Zone 5, Kubwa Extension 2 Relocation estate.”
As of now, the FCT Police Command has not released an official statement on the incident. However, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, has promised to investigate and provide information on the situation. Adeh stated, “I will find out and get back to you as soon as possible, please.” The community remains on edge as authorities work to address the growing security concerns.
