As the 2023 Christmas holiday approaches, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a set of crucial safety warnings to motorists in Delta State.
In a statement released to journalists on Friday morning, the Delta State Sector Command of the FRSC emphasized the need for strict adherence to driving rules and heightened awareness of safety measures during and after the yuletide season.
The Delta Sector Commander, Bassey Eshiet, underscored the collective responsibility of drivers, pedestrians, and all road users in ensuring safety on the roads. Eshiet urged everyone to prioritize safety, emphasizing that each driver should consider themselves as the key participant in maintaining sanity on the roads.
“Do not allow your safety to depend on the other road users, but make sure that you take care of yourself and keep a good distance between the vehicle that is ahead of you,” Eshiet advised. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining proper tire conditions and discarding worn-out tires to prevent accidents.
For long-distance travelers, Eshiet recommended careful journey planning, emphasizing the need for physical and emotional fitness before embarking on a trip. “Take the necessary medication until you are fit for the journey; if you are emotionally disturbed, do not drive, and if you can trek, don’t drive; it will go a long way in helping us,” he added.
During the festive season, the FRSC plans to deploy a significant number of officers to the Niger Bridge for enhanced safety measures. Eshiet assured commuters that strategic camps would be set up along the route, enabling officers from different commands to collaborate effectively.
“Commuters will not have to cry on the road this festive season; we want commuters to enjoy their ride to their destination peacefully,” stated Eshiet. The FRSC is also prepared with toying trucks on standby to clear road obstructions and fully functional ambulances in case of any accidents. Additionally, about seven patrol vehicles will be deployed in Asaba alone during this season.
With these measures in place, the FRSC aims to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience for all road users during the upcoming Christmas holiday.
