In adherence to Section 59 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, President Bola Tinubu has given the nod for the appointment of a fresh Board and Management team for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), effective from December 1, 2023.
The newly appointed members include Chief Pius Akinyelure as the Non-Executive Board Chairman, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer, and Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya as the Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, the team comprises Mr. Ledum Mitee, Mr. Musa Tumsa, Mr. Ghali Muhammad, Prof. Mustapha Aliyu, Mr. David Ogbodo, and Ms. Eunice Thomas as Non-Executive Directors.
President Tinubu also greenlit the appointment of two Permanent Secretaries, namely Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo as the Permanent Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Finance and Amb. Gabriel Aduda as the Permanent Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
President Tinubu emphasized his expectations for the newly appointed team, anticipating full compliance with the performance-driven and results-oriented mandate of his Renewed Hope administration. The focus is on implementing an energy policy that maximizes the current oil and gas resources while laying the groundwork for the comprehensive exploration of new and cleaner energy sources in the future.
The appointments mark a strategic move in aligning with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to advancing the energy sector and ensuring effective leadership within the NNPC.
