Gunmen suspected to be bandits have launched an attack on Yola village in the Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State, resulting in the abduction of numerous people. The attack occurred over the weekend, according to reports made available on Tuesday morning, but the exact number of victims abducted and killed has yet to be determined.
An anonymous resident, confirming the latest attack to Daily Trust, expressed his inability to ascertain the exact number of individuals who were abducted or killed during the Saturday invasion.
The resident stated, “I was told that on the first day of the attack, about four people were abducted and two killed, while in the second attack, two people were abducted and one killed. It is apparent that Karaye needs the presence of army posts because of these attacks.”
The Karaye and Rogo local governments have been experiencing a series of incessant attacks by bandits, causing significant unrest among the area’s residents. Rogo’s proximity to Katsina and Kaduna states has only compounded the issue.
In April 2023, bandits kidnapped a well-known businessman, Alhaji Nasiru Na’ayya, in Gangarbi Village, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, and killed one individual.
In 2021, the Karaye Emirate raised concerns about the influx of illegal miners from Zamfara into the emirate and took measures to address the issue. These measures included registering migrants in the emirate.
As of now, the state police command has not issued any official response to the recent attack in Karaye, and residents are urging local authorities to take action to ensure the safety and security of the region.
