The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke has accused the Federal government of using hunger as a tool to force the striking lecturers back to work.
He made this known during an interview with Channels TV, earlier today, 2nd of August, Prof. Osodeke noted that none of ASUU lecturers have been paid since the union embarked on the ongoing industrial strike action in February.
“They thought if they withheld out salaries for two or three months, we will come begging to return back to work”.
According to Prof. Osodeke, ASUU was a body of intellectuals who can’t be forced back to work through the use of hunger.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has been on strike since the 14th of February, following a pressing demand for a better welfare package in the country’s educational sector.
Just yesterday, the union extended the ongoing strike by another four weeks, following the federal government refusal to meet the Union’s demands.
